The 2026 Ford Expedition Max Platinum Edition Full Size SUV

You Are What You Drive - A Bottom Line Review
By Tony Leopardo - The Car Guy © AutoWire.Net

What is a Expedition? The Expedition is a full size SUV built in the Louisville, Kentucky assembly plant and sold in North America by Ford. The Max Edition means that the vehicle has an extended body and a longer wheelbase, which gives it much more cargo room. The MAX is about 11.8" inches longer overall than the standard model with 221.7" inches long compared to 209.9" inches long, with the wheelbase stretched by 9 inches.

When you pick a Max Edition Expedition you get more storage space behind the third row with 37.4 cubic feet of cargo space, compared to 22.9 cubic feet in the standard version. The total maximum cargo capacity with all the seats folded down is 123.1 cubic feet. Passenger seating remains the same with 7 or 8 passengers depending on the configuration. The MAX is an extended length body option available across all trim levels on the Active, Platinum, or King Ranch models, rather than a standard alone trim.

To promote this 2026 model this week Ford sent me a Platinum Edition Expedition to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this Max Model is $76,950. The options on the SUV are: the tri-coat metallic paint for $995, the black trim package with a black painted roof for $7,550, the Platinum Ultimate package for $14,570, the rear seat entertainment package for $1,995, the second row power folding bench seat for $595, the tray style floor liners for $200, the 7 year connection package for $745, the cargo tailgate manger for $405, and the SiriusXM 360L 3 year subscription plan for $300. The MSRP, manufacturer's suggested retail price, including the $2,595 delivery charge is: $106,900.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your driveway total purchase price came to $120,263. At just 263 bucks over $120 Grand you get Fords top of the line full size SUV that gets 15 MPG in city driving, 22 MPG in highway driving, and 18 MPG in combined everyday driving. This Platinum Ultimate Max Edition with the dual movie screens, the upscale luxury appointments and power everything, is like been chauffeured driven in an executive level Black Label limo.

OK, then what makes this SUV so special? The 2026 Ford Expedition with the Platinum Ultimate Package is the $14,570 luxury upgrade that builds on the standard Platinum trim. It has a 3.5L EcoBoost HO High Output V/6 gas engine generating 440 HP horsepower, and is paired with a high flow exhaust system with active damping and suspension upgrades. The exterior adds a set of extra large 24" inch alloy wheels, an illuminated front grille, satin aluminum exterior lettering with accents on the hood and sides, and chrome roof rails with black end caps. The interior gets a set of luxury multi-contour massaging leather seats in Mojave Dusk or Salt Crystal Gray interior colorways, plus active noise cancellation. Audio upgrades include a Bang & Olufsen Premium audio sound system with 22 speakers, and one year of BlueCruise hands free driving service.

Power and Performance: It has a twin turbocharged 3.5L liter HO high output V6 EcoBoost gas engine that pumps out 440 HP horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.
Acceleration: Power delivery is very smooth and abundant, although you might notice a very slight turbo lag when pressing the gas pedal down hard from a stop sign.
Towing: It handles heavy loads easily, with a towing capacity of up to 9,000 pounds.
Fuel Economy: Real world combined fuel economy is around 18 miles per gallon, which is typical for a heavy, fully loaded, full size SUV.
Ride Quality: This SUV has a nice ride as the long wheelbase of the Max model is close to 222" inches overall, which helps iron out the highways bumps and bruises, and makes for a very stable, smooth and calm driving experience.
Maneuverability: Because it is a large vehicle, parking in tight city spaces takes some patience, but with the standard 360 degree camera system and multiple parking sensors, it makes low speed maneuvers much easier.
Driver Assist: Features like Ford's Blue Cruise hands free driving assistance helps take the fatigue out of those long and boring highway drives.
Interior: The Max model configuration adds extra length behind the third row, meaning you can carry a full cabin of up to 8 passengers, alongside massive amounts of luggage space, without running out of room.
Displays: The dash features a high tech digital layout anchored by a massive 24" inch panoramic display screen and a 13.2" inch center stack touchscreen.
Luxury Touches: The Ultimate package adds in multicontour massaging front leather seats, a Bang & Olufsen Unleashed sound system with a subwoofer and 22 speakers, plus it has active noise cancellation that helps keep the interior remarkably quiet at speed.
Exterior Design & Tech: Has an illuminated front grille with signature lighting, specific exterior badging and moldings, and the preferred Drivers Package is standard on the Platinum Edition.

You should buy the 2026 Ford Expedition Max Platinum Edition if you need maximum cargo space, and want lots of high end luxury features, with strong towing capability for your heavy road trips. So, call, click or visit your local Ford dealer for a test drive, and a bottom line price review on the Expedition Max Platinum Edition SUV. And remember that the base price for a new Expedition starts at only $62,400. Ford's most iconic and enduring tagline is Built Ford Tough, which has been used primarily for its line of SUV's and F-Series trucks, since 1979, and now you can Go Further with Ford.

The key to life is to learn something new every day, and by reading my Bottom Line review, I hope you did just that, learned about something new and exciting. So, be smart, stay safe, and just breathe. Remember, You Are What You Drive, and maybe, just for those reasons alone, you should Drive one, Buy one, Today. Drive safely, have a great day, and enjoy the ride, as the future looks nice and bright - Tony the Car Guy.
