The Bottom Line: General Motors has had their up's and down's lately. Once the largest automotive manufacture in the world, they are now ranked fourth, behind Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and then General Motors. To get lean and trim, and be profitable, they closed down several nameplates over the years. Gone are Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer. Today GM sells only Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC trucks.

Since they emerged out of bankruptcy, GM has repaid its bailout loans from the U.S. government, and has completely satisfied the terms of the deals it made with the Treasury back in 2009. Now that they are on the path to profits, they can not afford to make any more mistakes in the car business. To that end, Chevrolet brought back the Trailblazer in early 2020 as a 2021 model.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer is an automobile nameplate used by Chevrolet, a division of General Motors, for their lineup of SUVs. The nameplate was first used as a mid-size SUV that was sold from 2001 to 2009 for the North American market. It was replaced by the introduction of the Traverse in 2009. Originally it wasan upscale trim line of the K5 Blazer, available from 1999 until 2001, when it became its own model as a midsize SUV.

Chevrolet is expanding its SUV portfolio with the addition of the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer, their new subcompact SUV sport utility vehicle. The new Trailblazer will join the smaller Trax and compact Equinox at the entry end of Chevy's SUV lineup. Chevy said the new Trailblazer will arrive at dealerships in early 2020. So they should be in stock at your favorite Chevy dealer as you read this.

Slotting in between the tiny Chevy Trax and the larger Equinox, the new 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is one of the latest entrants in the ever expanding subcompact crossover class.
This week Chevrolet sent me a 2021 Chevy Trailblazer AWD all wheel drive RS SUV in
vivid Oasis Blue with a Jet Black interior with Red Accent stitching on the seats, door trim and dashboard. The bright turquoise paint job, with black accents, goes right back to the two toned cars of the 1960's era. And it looks really cool on a brand new 2021 Chevy today.

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer RS AWD SUV starts with a base price of only $26,900. Then you add in the Sunroof and Tailgate power package for $1,770, the Technology Package for $1,720, the Convenience package for $620, and the Driver Confidence Package for $345. The options total up to $4,455, then add in the $995 destination charge, and the total MSRP manufactures suggested retail price comes to: $32,350.

The test car was loaded with safety and technology options, and the window sticker list price was just over $32K. With state sales tax, registration and license plates, dealer prep and delivery fees, the total out the door cash price is around $36,000, with the pink slip in your hand.

As the average transaction sales price in America is near $40,000, buying a loaded up, and great looking, top of the line, 2021 Chevy RS Trailblazer for $4,000 less is a pretty good deal. And the base LS Trailblazer starts at just $19,995.

All 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer RS models have a 1.3L liter 155 hp horse power gas engine, bolted to a 9 speed automatic transmission. The transfer case is FWD front wheel drive, with AWD all wheel drive on demand. So you can drive around all day long in 2 wheel drive, and then push a button, and the car goes into AWD all wheel drive for rain, sleet or snow. This way you can get better gas mileage by using AWD only when you need it.

Speaking of gas mileage, this 2021 RS Trailblazer gets 28 MPG miles per gallon in city driving, 30 MPG on the highway, with a combined average of 28 MPG. The Greenhouse Gas rating is a 6, out of 10. And the Smog Rating is a 7, out of 10. All good numbers for a small crossover SUV with AWD All Wheel Drive capability.

When your buying a new car, truck, minivan, crossover or SUV today, having the best safety and technology packages available is what really counts. This RS model comes with: Rear Parking Assist - Rear Cross Traffic Alert - Lane Change Alert - Blind Side Zone Alert.

Plus it has: Automatic Emergency Braking - Front Pedestrian Braking - Lane Keeping Assist - Lane Departure Warning - Forward Collision Alert.

Additional safety features include: Automatic Headlights High Beam  - Tire Fill Alert - Tire Pressure Alert - Teen Driver Alert - Chevy Safety Assist.

The option list is neat too. The RS package comes with black exterior trim, black bowtie badges, red accent stitching on all the seats, a flat bottom leather wrapped steering wheel, express power windows, a hands free power tailgate opener, power sunroof with power shade, and 18" high gloss black, machined aluminum alloy wheels, just to name a few.

The technology package includes what you want the most of: like wireless Apple Carplay, wireless Android Auto, Sirius XM Radio, a wireless cell phone charging pad, adaptive cruise control, a 4.2" diagonal multi color center display screen, plus a Bose Premium 7 speaker audio system, and a High Definition rear vision back up camera. The options listed on the window sticker are over 70 items long. As they say, see your Chevy dealer for the details.

To sum this review up, the 2021 Chevrolet RS Trailblazer AWD is a brand new for 2021 model that Chevy has brought to the SUV market with 5 model choices, 5 price points, and over 10 convenience, safety and technology packages for you to chose from. Taking this compact SUV into the 21st Century, with the ability to satisfy every buyer who wants what they want in their new ride, from cost, to safety, to comfort, the new 2021 Chevy Trailblazer has it all. And it all starts for $5 bucks less than $20 Grand.
