The 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL with the 2 Tone Roof Option
You Are What You Drive - A Bottom Line Review
By Tony Leopardo - The Car Guy © AutoWire.Net
What is a Venue? The Venue is a subcompact crossover SUV built in the Ulsan, Korea assembly plant, and sold world wide by Hyundai. The 2026 Venue is an ultra compact and budget friendly subcompact crossover SUV. It holds the distinction of being the least expensive new vehicle for sale in the United States, starting at a base window sticker price of only $20,550.
Often described as a small tall hatchback, rather than a traditional SUV, it is explicitly engineered as a practical, no nonsense easily affordable urban commuter. This subcompact crossover is a the cheapest new car you can buy in the US because the ultra cheap Nissan Versa was discontinued. The Hyundai Venue now holds the absolute lowest entry price point, followed closely by a handful of other highly affordable compacts and subcompact crossovers.
Engine and Performance: The Venue focuses strictly on fuel efficiency and tight city maneuverability over raw power:
Engine: A 1.6L liter naturally aspirated 4 cylinder gas engine has 121 HP horsepower and 113 lb-ft of torque.
Drivetrain: Front wheel drive FWD only. All wheel drive AWD is not available on any trim level.
Transmission: Has a CVT continuously variable transmission.
Fuel Economy: An impressive EPA estimated 29 MPG in the city, 33 MPG on the highway and it gets 31 MPG in combined everyday driving.
Handling: Features a tiny 33.2 foot turning circle, making it incredibly agile and effortless to parallel park in tight city parking spaces.
To promote this new 2026 model, this week Hyundai sent me a Venue to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this SEL 2 tone roof edition is $22,600. The only option on this small SUV are the carpeted floor mats for $240. The manufacturer's suggested retail price, MSRP, including the $1,600 delivery charge is: $24,440.
After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to $27,495. At just 495 bucks over $27 Grand you get a top of the line subcompact crossover SUV, that gets 29 MPG in city driving, 33 MPG in highway driving, and 31 MPG in combined driving. You get good gas mileage, an easy to park and easy to own, brand new mini SUV for less than $28,000 all in. This is a super deal in the slightly used or new car market today.
For the 2026 model year Hyundai dropped the previous top tier Limited trim, simplifying the lineup into two main models. A stylistic SEL 2 tone roof variant is also available, which features a contrasting roof color and distinct interior accents.
SE Base Model: Includes 15" inch alloy wheels, an 8" inch touchscreen infotainment system, standard manual climate control, and cloth seating.
SEL Edition: Adds 17" inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, a wireless phone charger, a leather wrapped steering wheel, automatic temperature control, and heated front seats.
Price: The base price for a 2026 Hyundai Venue in the SE trim starts at an MSRP of $20,550. Please note that actual dealer pricing will be slightly higher after adding in the destination and freight charges, sales tax, and any dealer installed optional equipment.
Technology and Safety Features: Despite its rock bottom pricing, the Venue punches above its weight with a robust modern tech package.
Infotainment: It comes standard with an 8" inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across both trims.
SmartSense Safety: Every model includes standard driver assistance features like forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, driver attention warning, and automatic high beam assist. The SEL trim further upgrades security with blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
Warranty Protection: It includes Hyundai's legendary 10 year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty and a 5 year / 60,000 mile limited warranty, giving it a massive edge over purchasing a used vehicle in the same price range.
OK then, who is it for? The Venue is tailor made for city dwellers, first time car buyers, and college students who want a brand new, reliable daily driver with modern safety tech and a full factory warranty, without breaking the bank. While it is too small for any serious off roading, or heavy highway overtaking, it thrives as being a highly affordable utility pod for urban errands
Here is a quick breakdown of the pricing across the 3 main trim levels:
SE Base: Starts at $20,550 MSRP.
SEL: Starts at $21,800 MSRP.
SEL with the 2 Tone Roof: Starts at $22,600 MSRP.
OK then, why buy one? You should buy a 2026 Hyundai Venue if you want a reliable, brand new vehicle with an unbeatable price. Starting at around $20,550, and capping under $25,000 for a fully loaded model, it offers exceptional value, unmatched city maneuverability, and peace of mind via Hyundai's 10 year / 100,000 mile warranty.
Here are 5 good reasons to buy a 2026 Hyundai Venue SEL subcompact SUV.
Unbeatable Price & Ownership Cost: As one of the most affordable new cars available in the U.S., you get that new car smell, predictable financing, and a pristine maintenance history for the price of a used vehicle.
Industry Leading Warranty: Hyundai's renowned 10 year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty ensures you won't get stuck with massive repair bills down the road.
City Friendly Dimensions: At just over 13 feet long it's incredibly easy to park, to make a U-turn, and weave through tight city traffic.
Surprisingly High Tech: Even at this price point you get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus creature comforts on higher trims, like heated front seats and a wireless phone charger.
Excellent Fuel Economy: The 1.6L liter gas engine delivers a thrifty EPA estimated 31 MPG combined, without needing a complex, heavy and expensive, hybrid drive system.
