The 2026 GMC Sierra EV AT4 Max Range Pickup Truck
You Are What You Drive - A Bottom Line Review
By Tony Leopardo - The Car Guy © AutoWire.Net
What is a Sierra EV? The 2026 Sierra EV is an all electric full size pickup truck built in the Detroit, Michigan GM Truck assembly plant, and sold in North America by GMC. The Sierra EV is an advanced electric pickup truck that shares its underlying architecture with the GMC Hummer EV and the Chevrolet Silverado EV. Designed for both luxury and heavy duty work, it features a dual motor drivetrain with all wheel drive AWD, and has a highly impressive driving range with innovative cargo hauling capabilities.
The 2026 GMC Sierra EV AT4 model is an off road oriented truck featuring aggressive styling, with high output dual electric motor power, and has a starting price of around $90,000.
Battery & Power: Uses a very large Ultium based battery pack producing 725 HP horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque in Max Power mode.
Range: GM estimated 478 miles on a single charge with the Max Range option.
Towing & Payload: Can tow up to 10,200 to 12,300 pounds, depending on configuration, and handle up to 1,500 lbs of payload.
Charging: Supports 800V DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, and can add roughly 100 miles of driving range in about 10 minutes time.
Off Road Features: Has a 2" inch additional ground clearance lift, paired with a set of 35" inch tall all terrain tires.
Steering: Equipped with 4 Wheel Steer enabling tight turning and high speed stability.
Design Cues: Has a distinctive AT4 appearance with dual red front recovery hooks and rugged body styling.
Technology & Interior: Centers around a large 16.8" inch vertical touch screen with Google Apps built in.
Driver Assistance: Comes standard with Super Cruise hands free driving technology.
Power Outlets: Offers multiple on board and in the bed power outlets, including a 240 volt outlet to run power tools and equipment, like an arc welder, a jack hammer, or a commercial air compressor.
To showcase this new all electric pickup truck, this week GMC sent me a 2026 Sierra EV AT4 to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this Max Range edition is $89,600. The options on the truck are: the bed floor liner and the truck bed hard cover for $2,250, the special paint for $495, and the GM NACS DC power adapter for $275. The manufacturer's suggested retail price, MSRP, including the $2,095 delivery charge is: $94,715.
After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your driveway total purchase price came to $106,554. At just 446 bucks under $107 Grand you get GMC's flagship, full size, all electric pickup truck that has zero harmful emissions and near 500 miles of driving range.
The 2026 GMC Sierra EV is unique because it combines an industry leading all electric driving range, a rugged off road AT4 package, and specialized low speed off road tech that combines precise one pedal off road braking, smooth throttle mapping, and rear axle steering engagement at low speeds for tight trail navigation, and it has Crab Walk.
OK, so what is Crab Walk? Crab Walk is a 4 wheel steering feature that turns the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels, canted up to 10 degrees, allowing the large truck to drive diagonally at low speeds.
How it works: Crab Walk turns the front and rear wheels identically, so the truck moves sideways and diagonally, instead of straight ahead.
Low speed only: Functions at slow speeds under 20 mph, automatically disengaging if you drive faster.
Activation: Turned on through the Controls App and the Rear Steering menu displayed on the center stack touch screen.
Common uses: In tight spaces it helps slide the truck into cramped parking spaces, or into narrow trailhead passing spots.
Trail mode: Assists in navigating around big rocks and tight obstacles while off roading.
Driving the 2026 GMC Sierra EV AT4 Max Range provides a mix of massive power, a very quiet and smooth ride, and noticeable weight. It has 725 HP horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque, hits 0 to 60 mph in roughly 4 seconds, and offers an EPA estimated 478 miles of range from its extra large Max Range 205 kWh battery pack.
Instant response: Acceleration is very strong and fast at any speed, making passing or merging effortless.
Soft movement: Because the truck is heavy, hard acceleration can cause the softer suspension to sway slightly.
Planted feel: The low center of gravity from the 2 ton battery keeps the truck feeling rock solid and super stable on any pavement.
Rear wheel steering: Standard 4 wheel rear steering gives this big truck a tight turning radius, helping with parking lots and making for smaller u-turns.
Off road weight: On muddy or uneven trails the weight of over 9,000 lbs can feel loose or slippery in the back end.
Quiet cabin: Road and wind noise are kept remarkably low, even with the AT4's 35" inch tall all terrain tires.
High seating and blind spots: The lifted AT4 body and high seating position create limited rear three quarter view visibility, though the top down camera helps compensate for the lack of direct in line sight.
Why buy one? You would buy a 2026 GMC EV AT4 Max Range pickup truck for its long driving mile range, rugged off road capability, and strong work utility. Starting around $90,000, this heavy duty all electric pickup truck combines high performance with high towing capacity, and has zero tailpipe emissions to help save the planet.
